May 7th was the date, downtown Wallace was the place, and the 31st Annual Northern Pacific Depot Railroad Museum Festival and Classic Car Show was the event. Depot Day has evolved into a major festival for Wallace, as it celebrates the coming of spring, America's favorite mode of transportation, the automobile, and the nostalgia of the railroads that helped make Wallace "The Silver Capital of the World."

Beautifully restored classic cars will fill the "closed-to-traffic" streets in historic Wallace, where there will also be the music at the Gazebo, lots of activities for kids on the Depot lawn, various ethnic and traditional food booths, and a model train exhibit. The Depot was built in 1902 using special bricks brought from China as ballast originally destined for a huge hotel in Tacoma, Washington.

There will be raffle drawings for several prizes.

  • 1st prize: 7 ounces of silver, 7 ounces of copper, beautifully framed, $500 value
  • 2nd prize: $75 gift certificate from Idaho Silver Shop

  • Registration for cars is between 7:00 and 11:00 AM
  • Judging starts at 11:00 AM
  • Fee is $15 or $25 with T-shirt
  • Trophies and raffle winners will be awarded at 3:15 PM at the gazebo
  • Qualify to win $100 raffle with pre-registration
  • Kiwanis Breakfast 7-11 AM at the Wallace Elks
  • Beer Garden with two Wallace Micro Brews
  • Live Music with One Gun and the Longshots beginning at 11 AM at the Gazebo
  • The Brat Boys selling brats and sausages

Depot Day 1994
The Northern Pacific Depot was moved 200 feet to this location in 1986 when Interstate 90 was built over the town, rather than through it. There was no option for the feds because every building in town is on the National Historic Register.

This piece of art is parked in front of the old Eagles Building, which housed the Wallace Arts Center, the center of the town's artistic community for many years.

Twenty-two years later, the Eagles Building now houses the Nite Rock Event Center, as well as the popular Dayrock Bar

The fellow holding the Grand Prize is Dean Cooper, former owner of Lookout Pass Ski and Recreation Area.

Twenty-two years later, Dean and Jill are the proud owners of the 1313 Club Bar and Grill.
